The much hyped Hytale has been cancelled by the Riot company on June 23, 2025. Noxy, cofounder of Hypixel Studio, wrote in the cancellation agreement,

Hytale was first released in 2018, and at that point, it had already been in the development phase. In 2021, the release was pushed into 2023, and a year later, it was pushed again. Then today, officially, it has been cancelled. Noxy wrote, “Over time, as our vision evolved and the genre matured around us, the bar kept rising.” Even after the major reboot of the game engine, the team found that Hytale lacked key features. In his agreement, Noxy said that the Hytale team still believes in the game but acknowledged that Riot was unable to find investors who could continue to help carry Hytale .

The number of people being put out of work by the closure of Hypixel was not disclosed, but the studio’s LinkedIn page describes it as a team of more than 70 globally. Some people are still hoping that the Hytale will come back one day, but Riot is not investing in it and is also not selling it to anybody, due to which the fate of Hytale is stuck. Noxy also noted that the Hypixel Minecraft server, which is operated independently of Hypixel Studios, will continue to operate as usual.

Sometimes we have to step back due to financial issues or some other challenges, that’s totally okay, but that doesn’t mean that all the efforts have to go to waste. The Hytale team should take a break, prepare itself, and come back with more energy and will to complete the project. Most importantly, they should not disappoint the people who have been waiting for this game for so long. Taking a pause is normal, but quitting should not be the solution.
