Facebook just wants to become the gatekeeper of the Internet for the developing world and exploit impoverished people to increase its own userbase, but for some strange reason (sarcasm), people keep preventing that from happening. People in India have been especially against the company’s exploitative Free Basics service, much to Mark Zuckerberg’s confusion and disappointment, and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India went so far as to ban the service entirely through a pro-net neutrality ruling on Monday. Even though Facebook has tried to disguise Free Basics as charity, India saw the service for what it really was, now we just need the 35 other countries that Free Basics is available in to figure it out as well.
