Nikon is giving Android point-and-shoots another try. Today it’s unveiling the Coolpix S810c, a small camera with Wi-Fi connectivity that runs Android 4.2.2. It’s the successor to the S800c — Nikon’s first Android camera — and Nikon has made a couple of nice changes: aside from the updated operating system, it has a larger 3.7-inch touchscreen, a longer zoom out to a 300mm equivalent, and a slimmer body.
Nikon is adding another camera to its popular Coolpix line, with an Android-based device. The Coolpix S810c runs on Android 4.2.2, an upgrade from the Android 2.3 used in the Coolpix S800c two years ago, and while it has a similar 16-megapixel sensor to its predecessor, its optical zoom has been improved from 10x to a greater 12x, doubling to 24x using “Dynamic Fine Zoom.” On the back is a 3.7-inch 1229k-dot LCD display, which is said to allow for not only access to the camera’s controls and image editing apps, but also allows for the browsing of social media apps and playing games sourced from Google Play. Connectivity to Google+ and its image editing service is also touted, with Google’s 15GB of free storage adding on top of the 20GB the Nikon Image Space provides.
