Whereas the previous two iPhones bearing the “S” marking were more like half steps towards a new smartphone than actual new release, this year’s iPhone 6S is rumored to be a significant upgrade over the iPhone 6. Other rumors claim that production of the device is already underway, and that Apple will be launching it much earlier than expected, which is strange considering how the iPhone 6 is still considered new.

Apple is already working on the next-generation iPhone 6s models, even though the current generation of devices is still a strong seller in stores. Multiple reports from sources familiar with Apple’s plans claim the iPhone 6s will be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, but the wildest iPhone 6s rumor yet says Apple might launch the new models much sooner than anticipated. Starting with the iPhone 4S, all of Apple’s smartphones have been released in the September/October timeframe in the U.S. and other markets, followed by a gradual launch in other international markets. Now, Chinese publication Economic Daily News has two reports out saying that Apple might be ready to launch the iPhone 6s a month earlier than expected. Apparently, supply chain sources familiar with the matter say the company has production of the iPhone 6s underway, and component yields are much better than expected. As a result, Apple would be able to launch the new 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus as soon as August, if it wanted to.
