USB Type-C hasn’t quite become the standard for new smartphones, but people still expect to see it on newer flagships, something you can thank the OnePlus 2 for. The speed of the transition to USB Type-C will depend on how quickly the companies that make mobile accessories start adopting it, which in-turn will depend on how many big-name companies start equipping their smartphones with USB Type-C ports. That’s why it’s such a big deal that Samsung will reportedly be giving the upcoming Galaxy S7 a USB Type-C port.

USB Type-C is slowly become the standard among new smartphones, but the technology could get a big boost early next year. SamMobile reports that the Galaxy S7 will be Samsung’s first phone to feature a reversible charging port. The news doesn’t come as a huge surprise. We’re expecting plenty of new phones to adopt USB-C in the next few months. Still, an endorsement from Samsung should help speed up adoption, especially among the companies that make mobile accessories. The Galaxy S7 is still a pretty big mystery, though some details have already begun to leak out. The device will allegedly ship with a Snapdragon 820 in the U.S. and China, though another version headed to Korea, Japan and Europe could pack a new Exynos M1 chip. A third Galaxy S7 variant with a less powerful Exynos 7422 may be headed to India. Other rumored specs include a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, which would be a big step up from the 5.1-inch Galaxy S6. The device is also rumored to pack a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter and 4GB of RAM. Nothing’s been confirmed yet, but the Galaxy S7 is already shaping up to be a pretty powerful gadget.
