The idea behind Firefox OS was to create a mobile operating system that would focus on being affordable, lightweight, and web standards-compliant. It was an admirable and ambitious idea, but not one that even came close to being popular, which is why Mozilla has more or less killed off the operating system and the handful of smartphones that use it. Instead, the company will shift its focus to connected devices and the Internet of Things, where it’s far more likely to make an impact on the market.
