Want something capable of keeping up with your rugged lifestyle? Samsung and AT&T just announced the Galaxy S5 Active. The Galaxy S5 Active, just like the Galaxy S4 Active that came before it, is exclusive to AT&T in the United States. Better yet, you can order it right now. As we expected, the phone is resistant against water and dust and, thanks to its tank-like form factor, can easily withstand drops without being seriously damaged. The heart rate monitor is indeed still on the back of the phone, a nod to Samsung’s new focus on health, though the fingerprint sensor has been replaced by hardware buttons just below the screen.

The Samsung Galaxy S5‘s waterproofing was one of its headline features, but if you need a little more resilience AT&T may have you covered. The previously leaked Galaxy S5 Active is now on sale, adding shock resistance to Samsung’s flagship smartphone while keeping the same specifications: a 5.1-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, and a 16-megapixel camera inside a water- and dust-proof body with a heart monitor. There’s an extra “convenience key” on the side of the phone that gives you easy access to all the phone’s apps that are related to outdoor activity. Although the casing looks hardier than that of the Galaxy S5, it’s reasonably slim — a far cry from the bulky “rugged” phones of yesteryear that often looked closer to military hardware than something you’d carry in your pocket. It’ll be offered in “camo green,” “titanium grey,” and “ruby red” colorways. But it’s questionable whether there’s as much of a need for this phone as its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Active, since the regular Galaxy S5 already offers more protection against the elements than most devices on the market.
