Nintendo’s new 3DS handheld game console may prove to be the ultimate device for gaming and entertainment on the go. In addition to letting users view games in three-dimensions, without the need for glasses, the 3DS will offer video content from Netflix and free WiFi connectivity.

At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, Nintendo announced its new Netflix deal that will allows gamers to stream video on the go. Additionally, the 3DS will get a wireless 3D video channel, giving users access to content like movie trailers, music videos, and comedy shorts. The device will even enable 3D recording as well.

In May, 3DS users will also get free access to over 10,000 AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots. A SpotPass passive connection feature will also allow users to download new content when it becomes available, even if the device isn’t in use.

“There is great potential to increase the number of people who enjoy video games by opening up new game-play opportunities that are only available through the use of 3D.” said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. “Nintendo 3DS will be the most connected Nintendo device ever, with its ability to link people via local wireless connections, while at the same time connecting them to people and content worldwide via hotspot connectivity.”

The Nintendo 3DS will go on sale in the U.S. later this month for $249.99.
