Strong demand for PS4 still causing supply issues for Sony

Another month, another sales milestone for PlayStation 4. One month after revealing sales of its video game console topped 6 million worldwide, Sony announced Wednesday the PS4 crossed the 7 million mark. The company also says more than 20.5 million digital and physical copies of PS4 games were sold since the console launched last November. In a statement, Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, says demand for the PS4 remains “strong.”

Sales of Sony’s PlayStation 4 platform have surpassed 7 million units worldwide but supply problems are continuing, the electronics giant said. Now available in 72 countries and regions, the platform had notched the milestone as of April 6, Sony Computer Entertainment said Thursday, about a month after it announced sales hit 6 million. “We are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide,” Andrew House, SCE president and group CEO, said in a release. A spokesman for the company in Tokyo would not elaborate on the issue, saying only that “PS4 sales have been very strong and as a result, PS4 is temporarily in short supply.” The console was available on Thursday at Yodobashi Camera and other major retailers in Japan, where it launched in late February.
