The LG G4 will reportedly be equipped with a fingerprint scanner

Biometrics, particularly fingerprint scanning, is quickly becoming a must-have feature for flagship smartphones and LG doesn’t want to be the odd one out. The South Korean company will reportedly be equipping the upcoming LG G4 smartphone with a fingerprint scanner which will be placed on the back of the device rather than on the front, which is where Apple and Samsung place their scanners.

Yesterday we talked about how the LG G4 might differentiate itself from its predecessor, and implement new features that would make it a more competitive rival to Samsung and HTC’s finest, unveiled at MWC 2015. There are several ways LG will apparently do this: the G4 could feature a metal body and it will be released with a new LG UX on top of the Android operating system. In addition, the handset could also boast a brand new in-house SoC and ditch the Snapdragon 810. More to the point, earlier this week, LG Mobile’s CEO Cho Juno revealed that LG is considering entering the mobile payment game and is now on the lookout for potential partners to undertake this endeavor. But mobile payments usually require some sort of secure biometric scanning for authentication purposes, such as a fingerprint scanner, and up until now we haven’t heard anything regarding the LG G4 and the possibility that it might feature such tech.
