Qualcomm won’t unveil the Snapdragon 820 tomorrow after all

If you’ve been waiting to see some official information on the SoC that’s going to power most of next year’s high-end smartphones then get ready to keep waiting. There were some rumors recently that Qualcomm would be unveiling the Snapdragon 820 tomorrow, but Qualcomm has confirmed that this is actually a misunderstanding and, while it’s still holding a press conference tomorrow, it won’t have anything to do with the Snapdragon 820.

As some of you should be able to recall, earlier this week we came across a rumor suggesting that Qualcomm might unveil the highly anticipated Snapdragon 820 on August 11, during a press conference in LA. The Snapdragon 820 is supposed to replace the SD 810 in the top tier market range, and rumor has it that test samples have already been shipped to several smartphone makers including HTC and Sony. Sadly and although we were hoping for an imminent official unveiling, it looks like the initial report concerning the August 11th press conference was misinterpreted. Qualcomm did send out press invites for an event which will be held next week, but chances are that it won’t be related to the Snapdragon 820 unveiling. If you care to learn the details, you’ll find them below. Apparently, the reason why sources in Taiwan were initially excited for a possible SD 820 unveiling on the 11th of August was the fact that Qualcomm had sent the aforementioned press invites for the “mysterious” LA event.
