With the Taiwanese company’s ever-shrinking profits recently culminating in it falling off of Taiwan’s fifty most valuable companies list, it’s clear that the mobile market has not been kind to HTC, and things are only going to get worse. That’s why it’s so important that HTC’s next high-end smartphone be successful, because this may be the company’s last chance to start turning things around. Rather than betting all of its chips on a single device, however, HTC apparently plans to announce two flagships at its big September 29th press event instead of one. Considering how this is the same day that Google’s expected to announce its own pair of flagships, September 29th is shaping up to be a pretty big day for the Android market.
Last week, HTC revealed its plans to introduce a new smartphone on the 6th of September. Through the official teaser image, the Taiwanese company described the mysterious device as “handsome”, so at that point we began hoping for the new contender to be none other than the fabled HTC A9 / Aero. As it turned out, the smartphone announced by HTC yesterday is part of the “Desire” lineup, so it doesn’t sit at the top of the food chain. In reality, the HTC Desire 728 is a mid-range terminal priced accordingly. The good news, however, is that the company is still expected to make a major announcement by the end of this month. In fact, HTC just revealed a new teaser image for an upcoming event that will occur on September 29th. Intriguingly enough, the image hints at the official unveiling of not one, but two high-end smartphones. But while we might get to see one or two new flagships coming out of HTC’s labs on the 29th of the month, we can’t say for sure which one of the highly anticipated HTC smartphones will be presented. Obviously, we’re hoping for the mysterious “A9” to finally rear its head, but HTC could also reveal a new Butterfly destined for the Japanese market or a spin-off based on the ongoing high-end models.
