Competing with Google Maps requires more than just being able to give people accurate directions, you need to pack in as many helpful features as you can while still keeping the app as simplistic as you can. That’s why Apple has started including reviews from Booking.com and TripAdvisor in Apple Maps for some hotels. These reviews can easily accessed directly through the map.

Apple Maps has begun including reviews from TripAdvisor and Booking.com in recent days for selected hotels. You can access reviews for hotels through the drop-pin on the map. Here, you will see a star rating for the hotel as well as public reviews and customer photos from Booking.com, TripAdvisor or Yelp. Yelp has traditionally been the go-to review service for Apple, so adding the two hotel review services could help broaden the appeal of the mapping app. Booking.com appears to be the more popular review site for European countries, while hotels in the US seem to have more reviews from Yelp or TripAdvisor. Apple has been working to improve its mapping service in recent months; it’s added and extended fly-over support and introduced new partnerships in the US.
