Apple’s idea to use OLED screens for gadgets shows how keen they are to boost how things look and feel. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg says Apple wants to use OLED tech on the iPad Mini, iPad Air, and MacBook Air soon. They already put OLED screens on the iPad Pro and iPhone. This switch shows Apple’s push to get great screens on all items, but costs might go up a bit.
The news says the iPad Mini might get the change first, sometime next year. If this happens, the iPad Mini might cost around $100 more. For some folks, it may seem like a lot, but Apple thinks folks will pay for nicer screens. OLED screens make colors pop more, blacks look darker, and things look sharper than standard LCDs. They need less power, too, so batteries last longer and are more eco-friendly. Apple showed that OLED works great on iPhones and iPads, so adding it to small tablets and laptops seems bright.
But this change will not occur super-fast at all. Gurman says a MacBook Air with OLED is due around 2028, meaning Apple is being slow with making and testing. This slow plan might be due to costs, since OLED panels cost more than LCDs. Apple might await better ways to make things cheaper before using OLED on cheaper stuff like the MacBook Air and iPad Air.
Guess what? Apple might make a touchscreen MacBook Pro that comes out by late next year or early 2027. This would be a significant change for Apple, since they have not wanted touchscreens on MacBooks. If it has an OLED screen, it could be a fresh time for Apple, terrifically mixing tablets and laptops. It also might make Apple compete more with those Windows or ChromeOS computers.
OLED screens are way nicer for folks to look at. Seeing videos, fixing pictures, or just reading stuff is better with great colors. But the bad part is cash. Apple often makes prices go up when it adds better screens. The iPad Mini, which is pricey now, is even more expensive with an OLED screen. But Apple fans love good stuff more than saving money, so folks will still buy these nice gadgets.
Thinking big, Apple is slowly using OLED on everything to focus on new stuff instead of fast updates. They have been slow to try new tech, making sure it feels good. By adding OLED screens bit by bit, Apple wants all screens, from watches to laptops, to be super pretty. The new iPad Mini could be a small part of that weird plan.
