Amazon might now be the defacto marketplace to buy and sell online goods in the UK, but eBay believes its “good surprise” might just lure customers back into the world of online auctions. In a bid to make things things a little easier for users to understand, eBay says that from May 13th it’ll allow UK users to list up to 20 items every month completely free of charge. Listings can include any item, as long as it’s not a car, and eBay continues to retain its 10 percent selling and postage fee.
Online auction site eBay has re-aligned its fee structures for UK users, allowing private sellers to list up to 20 items for free per month for private sellers. From May 13, UK eBayers can start using this allowance of 20 free listings to list items from any category, except Motors. After 20 have been used, the new flat structure of 35 pence per listing will then kick in for any subsequent auctions or fixed-price format sales. While simplification of the fee structure will likely be welcomed by many private sellers, it’s not quite such good news for high-volume, low-price vendors – the old structure allowed for up to 100 free listings per month for items with a starting price of under £1.
