Pixate is a small enough startup that it’d be easy for its acquisition by Google to fly under the radar, but it’s actually quite significant. The startup was founded a few years ago to help app developers make prototypes for their apps quicker and easier using paid tools. Now that the company has been acquired by Google, however, these incredibly useful tools are now being offered for free, and that’s just the beginning.

Google has bought yet another small tech company. It revealed that it has acquired the Palo Alto, California-based Pixate, which was formed in 2012. Pixate creates tools for developers so they can make quicker and easier prototypes for mobile apps. While the specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, a message from Pixate CEO Paul Colton says they have decided to let developers access their Pixate Studio software for free. He added: “We don’t want to stop there. Our small team at Pixate has some really big ideas, and with the help of Google we’ll be able to bring those ideas to the design community at scale. We’ve become an essential part of the workflow for tens of thousands of designers, and are excited about expanding our mission at Google to reach millions of product teams worldwide.”
