Huawei may be a big name brand in China, but in the states, not very many people would even recognize it, and this is something that the company wants to change. First launched in December of 2013, Huawei’s Honor line of budget smartphones have sold more than 20 million devices and the company hopes that the line will be just as successful in the US, which it plans on launching later this year.

Huawei plans to start selling its budget priced Honor Android smartphones in the US sometime later in 2015. The China-based company first launched the Honor line in December 2013 and sold 20 million of them in 2014. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Xu Zhiqiang, the president of Huawei’s U.S. devices business, said he was optimistic about the company’s chances for success, stating, “If you look at the U.S. market, it is unique in that all the competitors are here. I don’t think it’s sustainable for all these players to be here. A lot of them will disappear…But we will be here.” Huawei Devices Chief Marketing Officer Shao Yang was also interviewed, stating that no-contract budget phones like the Honor lineup will become more popular in the US, adding, “For us, the most important thing is really how to reach the consumer directly.”
