Analytics firm Flurry posted figures looking back on app usage in 2013 on its official blog on Monday. The data reveals that growth last year was driven by messaging and social networking applications, which increased in year over year usage by 203 percent. Some of the most popular options in that category were Snapchat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, KakaoTalk, and LINE.
Messaging apps helped boost mobile usage by 115% last year
In November 2013, Benedict Evans, a well-respected and widely followed analyst, shared an updated version of his famous slide deck called “Mobile is Eating the World”. This deck quickly made the rounds on social media and was highly referenced by industry and financial analysts who cover mobile. We can’t help but agree with Benedict’s conclusion.
