Accessibility is second only to content offerings when it comes to what’s holding virtual reality back at the moment. There simply aren’t any easily-obtainable virtual reality headsets out there at the moment, and all the ones that are available are still hundreds of dollars. That’s why Google Cardboard was such a brilliant idea, as it allowed anyone with a smartphone and some basic arts and crafts skills to make a DIY virtual reality headset. Now it looks like Microsoft wants to do the same thing.
