Microsoft’s Groove music streaming service is expanding

41 sec read

Now that Microsoft is back in the game with Windows 10, it’s about time the company start really competing against the likes of Apple and Google with new apps and services. While Groove isn’t a “new” service, having been rebranded from Xbox Music, it has been revamped enough that it may as well be a new service, and Microsoft has extended it’s availability to Android and the web.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that its Xbox Music branding would be retired, with the music service being relaunched under the new ‘Groove’ brand. Since first rolling out on Windows 10 before its launch, the Groove app has since rolled out to the Xbox One, and it’s now extending its reach further. Microsoft has now launched Groove on the web, with a new site at music.microsoft.com; the old music.xbox.com URL now redirects to the new one. Like its predecessor, the new site offers an overview of the service – including support for streaming your existing music collection from OneDrive – and also invites visitors to sign up for a free 30-day trial to the Groove Music Pass subscription, offering unlimited music streaming and downloads.
