If you have a Nintendo 64 kicking around, it’s probably not hooked up to your television. It’s not that you don’t love the classic console, it’s just that manymodern sets don’t support the machine’s archaic video cables. Don’t worry, it can be fixed. RetroActive, a one-man mod team, is working on a circuit board that will gift the aging console with digital outputs. The kit promises to pipe audio and video out through DVI, HDMI or VGA, but its creator is considering building an HDMI-only version.

The Nintendo 64 is one of my favorite consoles in history. Because of the unique nature of the console, the vast majority of its releases were exclusive, as opposed to the massive multiplatform parity we have today. As a result, the library still stands on its own with a ton of classics in tow. Sadly, it’s becoming harder and harder to hook things up as more TVs ditch legacy inputs.  So one person took it upon themselves to create a board that can be installed into your N64 to output HDMI, VGA, or DVI. Note that you’ll have to actually solder this in yourself and it won’t be easy, but still — it’s great that the gaming community is out there working on ways to preserve the legacy of gaming.
