Nintendo is so slow to get with current trends that it has almost become a joke. The company is only just now embracing many of the features and offerings that its competitors have had for years, such as mobile apps. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has hinted that the company could be working on a new smartphone app just for Mii characters.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has hinted that the company is developing a smartphone app for Mii characters. Speaking with Nikkei, Iwata was asked about what Nintendo’s plans are for smartphones in the future. While Iwata reinforced his opposition to porting games over to tablets and smartphones, he explained that the company is looking “to develop products that will allow customers to identify with Nintendo products and make people pay attention to Nintendo games.” And one of those products appears to be a Mii app. “For example, some Nintendo game consoles incorporate Mii, which creates a digital avatar to represent players,” Iwata said. “It would be fun for players to use their Mii characters as icons on social media. We are currently developing an application that will allow users to do that. The app will be announced around the time our full-year results are released.”
