The video games market in July 2025 was also very promising, with Nintendo Switch 2 and a number of big new games being released switch 2 has already become a runaway success, selling more than 2 million units in the U.S. in the first two months. This is a massive success since it is 75% ahead of the sales rate of the initial Switch.

The hardware spending in the U. S. in July was also the highest it had been in July since 2008. Not only is the Switch 2 the highest-selling console of the month, but it is also the highest-selling console of the year to date, even surpassing the PlayStation 5. The accessories have also performed well, with the Switch 2 Pro Controller becoming the highest-selling accessory of 2025.

Although these figures are impressive, analysts have taken pains to mention that good initial sales do not necessarily translate into the dominance of a console in the long run. Nevertheless, Nintendo has demonstrated a high demand and a phenomenal supply system to fulfill it, providing the Switch 2 with a good platform to grow in the future.

Software-wise, there were huge releases in July. EA Sports College Football 26 emerged as the best-selling game of the year, and it has already become the third best-selling game. In second place was the EA Sports MVP Bundle, which is a cross of College Football 26 and Madden NFL 26. The power of classic characters was evident as Donkey Kong Bananza debuted at No.3 even though Nintendo failed to record full digital sales. The Pro Skater 3,4 by Tony Hawk ranked as No.4 and was more inclined to the loyal customers of the series.

Other significant entries were Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 at the No.5 position, Forza Horizon 5 at the No.7 position, courtesy of its release on the PlayStation and Grounded at the No.8 position, which performed particularly well on the PC. The best-selling game of 2025 to date is Monster Hunter Wilds, published earlier this year, and so it can withstand new adversaries.

All in all, game expenditure in July increased by 5% over a year ago and reached $5.1 billion. Software only expanded by 4% to $4.5 billion with the help of mobile and subscription services. Hardware and software figures were both healthy, and July was one of the largest months of gaming of the past several years, making the holiday season this year very competitive.
