The Pixel Watch 4 is a new milestone in the world of smartwatches offered by Google. It brings several firsts, differentiating it from the previous models and its rivals. Its most prominent difference is the new Actua 360 domed display that not only looks much classier but is also 10% larger in active area and with thinner bezels. These changes confirm much of what was hinted at in earlier leaks, when renders gave us the first clear look at the Pixel Watch 4’s sleeker design back in April.

The screen has excellent brightness, 3000 nits, which enables it to be read even in very bright sunlight. The design maintains the circular architecture of the old ones, yet adds durability in the form of the aerospace-grade extruded aluminium and custom Corning Gorilla Glass. Significantly, it can be repaired, and the battery and screen can be replaced, which demonstrates the preoccupation with longevity on the part of Google.

Battery performance is the other deliverable highlight. The 41mm smartwatch has 30 hours of battery life, and the 45mm has 40 hours. The sleek, quick-charging dock helps the watch recharge in 15 minutes to 50%, which means that the watch is extremely convenient on an everyday basis. With the hood up, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, the next-generation co-processor, comes with stronger performance and better power efficiency. When paired with a new haptic engine and improved speaker, overall, it is smoother and more pleasant to use.

One of the most revolutionary additions is satellite communication. Pixel Watch 4 is the first smartwatch that directly connects to geo-stationary satellites to guarantee emergency services when away from cellular networks. This capability is an essential milestone towards safety, particularly for outdoor adventurers.

Significant improvements to health and fitness tracking have also been made. Sleep tracking has been enhanced by 18%, skin temperature monitoring will help one identify early warning signs, and dual frequency GPS will enable one to get accurate route mapping even in challenging environments.

The watch broadens the possibilities to track exercises and is more accurate at auto-detecting workouts due to the AI. Its usefulness to an athlete even further extends to real-time bike metrics.

One of the most innovative features is AI, a health coach powered by Gemini. It gives advice proactively and customized, making the watch more than a tracker. Objectively combined with the use of new intelligent connection technologies and the ease of using Raise to Talk, the Pixel Watch 4 integrates design, health, safety, and AI into a single device.

At the same price as the predecessor, it offers a lot more value and puts it on the front line to become a top smartwatch in 2025.

The original Pixel Watch was late to the game. For years, there had been rumors of a Google smartwatch that never materialized. Then, when it finally arrived, it was a quintessential first-gen device, with thicc bezels, dismal battery life, and a host of quirks that needed ironing out. My DMs were full of people wondering when the watch would be unceremoniously dumped into Google’s infamous product graveyard. A part of me wondered if Google was going to spend the next decade playing catch-up.
