The 4.7-inch iPhone 6’s casing has been leaked in a new video

Mac Otakara has posted a video it says is of the actual back of the 4.7-inch model of the iPhone 6, contrasting it with much simpler mockups. While there’s no way to assess whether the part is genuine, it certainly looks convincing. The many mockups floating around are essentially featureless inside, but this appears to have the detail of the real thing. If it’s a hoax, it’s an extremely elaborate one. Chinese site Feng.com is also claiming that the 4.7-inch model will come in only two options, 32GB and 64GB, while the 5.5-inch model will add the option of 128GB. The site echoes an easier report from Deutsche Telekom that Apple is finally dropping the 16GB entry-level option on the new phones.

With Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 handsets reportedly almost ready to enter mass production, we can expect leaks to kick into high gear. After all, with more than a hundred thousand people involved in the manufacturing process, it has become impossible to prevent component leaks. Case in point: For the first time ever, a component that is believed to be an authentic rear shell from Apple’s upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 6 has appeared in a leaked video. We have seen what was claimed to be the iPhone’s aluminum rear housing appear in a few leaked photos, starting with one that was published back in late March. Now, however, it looks like Japanese Apple blog Mac Otakara has managed to obtain the first ever video of what appears to be an authentic iPhone 6 shell. The video shows the aluminum iPhone 6 housing next to one of the many leaked iPhone 6 mockups we have seen in recent months, and the dummy units certainly appear to be a good likeness of the real thing. This was expected, of course, since they are based on leaked schematics of Apple’s actual next-generation hardware. Also seen in the video is a comparison of the iPhone 6 shell with a 5.5-inch iPhone phablet mockup, which is obviously significantly larger than its 4.7-inch counterpart. Both the 5.5-inch iPhone mockup and the iPhone 6 shell are then compared to an iPhone 5s for scale.
