The 25th anniversary celebration of the Total War series by Creative Assembly was one of the first displays to introduce some of the largest changes ever seen by the community over the past few years.

It included a reintroduction of medieval warfare, a greatly expanded Warhammer subseries, and the introduction of a new engine that was to be used in the consoles, all of which signify a major turn in the future path of the franchise. The subsequent elucidation outlines the mentioned developments and the impact they have on players.

Medieval 3 Plunges Total War to its Origins

The most notable announcement was the next title, Total War: Medieval 3, the first historical strategy game in a long time. Even though the game is still in its infancy, the unveiling established that it is not just a sequel. Creative Assembly called the project an ode to the traditional Medieval titles and a series advancement.

The game design places the game as a massively medieval strategy sandbox, in which players can build kingdoms, play with the topology, and change the course of history.

Although Creative Assembly stressed historical faithfulness as one of the priorities, the players are also left to develop original histories and repercussions.

The overall point is clear, it is not only a comeback, but a total re-emergence of the historical focus of the overall concept of Total War in the game, namely, Medieval 3.

Warhammer 3 Continues with Lords of the End Times

The Warhammer fantasy series was also given a significant update. To the Immortal Empires campaign, Total War: Warhammer 3 Lords of the End Times, which is due in summer 2026, will add four mighty Legendary Lords. The former, Nagash, the exalted necromancer, desires to encircle the world in the undeath.

The growth is synergistic with a wide End Times Update that converts the campaign into an apocalyptic world of events and world-changing situations.

Another Legendary Lord was also to be added to this update, as intimated by Creative Assembly. The studio emphasized the fact that the Warhammer series is not over yet; despite ten years of absence, the fantasy subseries still has a lot of future ambitions.

War core Engine Paves the Way to Consoles

The other significant leak was concerning the next-generation technological platform of Creative Assembly, the Warcore engine. Such an engine will allow the introduction of future Total War versions to consoles in the history of the franchise.

Warcore is designed to accommodate a more advanced fight, higher visual resolution, and smoother gameplay.

According to Creative Assembly, the engine will keep developing and acquire more functionalities as time goes on. This can be seen as a major move towards increasing the Total War audience, with users of PlayStation and Xbox finally being able to access new series titles.

Surprise Game Announced at The Game Awards

The presentation ended with a trailer of big news to be made at The Game Awards on December 11. Creative Assembly has announced that it will be a surprise Total War game and one of the most ambitious projects the company has ever done. It is also expected to make up the next big launch of the franchise, which might mark the beginning of a new era.

The 25th anniversary of Total War has brought more than just nostalgia; it has brought a bright future full of new games, a new level of technology, and new strategic paths for the series. The next year is possibly one of the most fateful in the history of Total War.
