U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will start negotiations with China this week regarding a potential deal for the TikTok app. Speaking on Air Force One, Trump said discussions are expected to begin Monday or Tuesday, possibly involving Chinese President Xi Jinping or his representatives.

Trump stated that the U.S. “pretty much” has a deal in place concerning the sale of TikTok’s American operations. Last month, he extended the deadline for the Chinese company ByteDance to divest TikTok’s U.S. assets until September 17.

If successful, this deal will be beneficial worldwide. TikTok is widely used by businesses and individuals for promotions, marketing, and reaching global audiences. For many it’s the only source of income. An agreement would ensure the platform continues to operate securely in the U.S., benefiting users and companies who rely on it.

Trump expressed cautious optimism about the negotiations, noting a good relationship with President Xi and saying, “I think the deal is good for China and it’s good for us.”

However, if the deal does not go through, it may result in disruptions for millions of TikTok users and businesses globally, potentially affecting marketing and promotional activities on the platform.

Trump’s decision aims to reshape TikTok’s future in the U.S. by focusing on data security and protecting national interests. He wants TikTok’s U.S. operations to be controlled by American investors to increase transparency and user trust. If the negotiations are successful, it will be a positive sign for global businesses and marketing. However, if it fails TikTok users will have a mountain of problems ahead.
