LG is hoping to rise above the Android smartphone fray by amping up the camera performance in its flagship phone. The LG G4 features a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera lens has a wide f/1.8 aperture and is paired with a sensor LG spokesman Frank Lee says measures up to those found in high-end point-and-shoots. Lee said this camera setup allows the G4 to work particularly well in low-light settings, for years a huge pain point for the majority of Android phones. LG is also adding manual shutter speed, ISO and white-balance controls, for the more serious control freaks. Samsung’s Galaxy S6 camera is nearly as good as the ones found on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Lee said that the G4 should be able to compete with, if not beat, those leading handsets in shooting. Another notable feature on the G4 is its removable backplate. The standard G4 will ship with a plastic, metallic-looking back, but LG will sell a version with a leather-clad backplate as well.
