What little success Microsoft has had with Windows Phones has been in the low-end side of the mobile market, especially in developing countries, but with the introduction of the Windows 10-powered Lumia 950 and 950 XL, the company is making a serious push into the high-end side of the market. Neither device has actually been released yet, but we’re already hearing rumors about their successors, which claim that Microsoft’s 2016 flagships will have a Snapdragon 820.

Microsoft recently announced its first smartphones powered by Windows 10 Mobile, the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 550. All three will be launched on the market by the end of the year, but the Redmond-based company plans to launch even more smartphones in the next couple of months. We reported earlier today that one of the handset that might be unveiled in Q1 2016 is the Surface Phone, which will focus on productivity features rather than specs. The Surface Phone will be Microsoft’s business flagship smartphone, one that will probably be purchased by Windows Phone fans looking for a business-oriented handset. But what about those customers who favor specs over everything else? Well, it looks like Microsoft plans to compete with other brands (and ecosystems) with other type of flagship smartphones that will rather focus on specs. According to NPU, sources close to Microsoft claim the company plans to launch at least two flagship smartphones next year, which will be equipped with Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset.
