When Irrational Games was disbanded last year, many people were worried that this meant the end of the BioShock series, and even though 2K and Take-Two have claimed that this isn’t the case, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick decided to remove and lingering doubts we may have had. According to him, BioShock is “unquestionably a permanent franchise,” and while he didn’t talk about the future titles, he said that they’ll be revealed in due time.

Bioshock is “unquestionably a permanent franchise” says Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. The Bioshock franchise is still incredibly important to 2K and Take-Two Interactive, despite developer Irrational Games closing in 2014. Irrational Games is the studio behind Bioshock, Bioshock 2 and Bioshock Infinite. Studio head Ken Levine stayed with the publisher, but much of the team were laid off with the closure of Irrational. Speaking to Gamespot, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said “The [Bioshock} franchise is in the hands of 2K.” “They’ll make announcements in due time about any upcoming releases. But BioShock is unquestionably a permanent franchise for our company and one that we do believe in.” Ken Levine is reportingly working on something that is “highly creative and innovative.” Levine’s next game will run on Unreal Engine 4. Set to focus on “fluid relationships,” the title will be a “smaller, more entrepreneurial” effort when compared to his past games.
