Blizzard is launching Overwatch on current-gen consoles as well

Last night, Blizzard confirmed the rumors that it’s launching Overwatch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well, which would’ve been almost unthinkable a couple of years ago. Diablo III was the first Blizzard game to be launched on consoles since The Lost Vikings 2 landed on the SNES back in 1997, and considering how Overwatch is a controller-friendly FPS, it makes sense that the upcoming game would be launching on current-gen consoles, and not just on PCs.

Blizzard’s upcoming shooter Overwatch is now coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC, the developer has confirmed. Overwatch was previously confirmed to only be coming to PC, but it looks like a console release is on the way too. Blizzard’s upcoming title is a class-based first-person shooter that takes inspiration from titles such as DOTA 2, Team Fortress 2 and Heroes of the Storm. Each individual character has a unique style, appearance and abilities that can be used on the battlefield to assist your team and defeat the enemy. Imagines Overwatch as a mixture of DOTA 2 and Team Fortress 2, with some modern FPS mechanics thrown in for good measure. Overwatch was first announced at Blizzcon 2014, where the game was shown off with an extensive gameplay demo and character-focused trailers. A PS4 and Xbox One release has officially been confirmed, with listings of “Overwatch: Origins Edition” having been spotted at US retailer Gamestop for $60 (around £40).
