California Privacy Rights

CCPA Privacy Policy.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act and its 2023 update (the CPRA) give you a specific set of rights over the personal information TECHi® collects about you. This page spells out what we collect, why, and — most importantly — how you exercise every right the statute gives you. No dark patterns. No lawyer fog.

Scope

Who this notice is for.

This notice supplements our general Privacy Policy and explains how the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA) apply to you when you visit TECHi®, subscribe to our newsletters, or use our tools and calculators.

It applies to “consumers” as California defines the term — any natural person who is a California resident. If you live somewhere else, the general Privacy Policy and, where relevant, our GDPR Compliance notice apply to you instead.

What we collect

Categories of personal information.

California law defines twelve statutory categories of personal information. Here is exactly which ones TECHi® has collected about California residents in the last twelve months — and, just as importantly, which ones we do not touch.

  • Identifiers

    Collected

Name, email, IP address, account ID, cookie IDs, device identifiers.

  • Customer records

    Collected

Billing address and payment information when you subscribe or purchase.

  • Protected classification

    Not collected

Age-band, gender, nationality — only when you voluntarily supply it.

  • Commercial information

    Collected

Subscription tier, purchase history, tools and calculators you use.

  • Biometric information

    Not collected

Fingerprints, voiceprints, retina scans, gait patterns.

  • Internet or network activity

    Collected

Pages visited, referring URLs, session duration, clickstream, search queries.

  • Geolocation data

    Collected

Approximate location derived from IP address (country and region only).

  • Sensory information

    Not collected

    Audio, video, or visual recordings.

  • Professional or employment information

    Collected

Job title or employer, but only if you submit it through careers or advertising forms.

  • Non-public education information

    Not collected

    Student records governed by FERPA.

  • Inferences

    Collected

Reading preferences, stock watchlist interests, newsletter segment assignment.

  • Sensitive personal information

    Not collected

Government IDs, account credentials with passwords, precise geolocation, racial or religious origin, union membership, health, sex life, or sexual orientation.

Where it comes from

Four sources, no mystery.

01

Directly from you

When you register, subscribe, comment, submit a contact or careers form, or opt in to our newsletter.

02

Automatically from your device

Via cookies, log files, analytics SDKs, and advertising pixels that activate when you interact with the site.

03

From trusted third parties

Analytics, ad-serving, fraud-prevention, and payment providers share aggregate or hashed data with us under contract.

04

Public and commercial sources

Press releases, SEC filings, and public business directories when those touch on our editorial coverage.

Why we use it

Six legitimate business purposes.

  • Deliver the TECHi website, newsletters, tools, and calculators you request.

  • Authenticate your account, process payments, and prevent fraud or abuse.

  • Personalize article recommendations and your Popular This Week feed.

  • Measure editorial performance — which stories resonate and where to invest.

  • Serve contextual and (where permitted) interest-based advertising.

  • Comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our Terms.

Sale & sharing

Does TECHi® sell your personal information?

We do not sell personal information for money. We do “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as the CPRA defines that term — namely, hashed identifiers and on-site activity exchanged with our advertising partners to show you more relevant ads across the web.

You have an unconditional right to opt out of this sharing. Click the persistent “Your Privacy Choices” link in the site footer, or transmit the Global Privacy Control signal from your browser. We recognize GPC as a valid opt-out request under California law and honor it automatically, session to session.

Your rights

Six rights. Every California resident. No fine print.

01

Right to know

Ask us for the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you over the past twelve months, plus the sources, purposes, and any third parties we disclosed it to.

02

Right to delete

Request that we delete personal information we have collected from you — subject to the narrow exceptions California law allows (completing a transaction, detecting security incidents, legal compliance).

03

Right to correct

Ask us to correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to verify and update the record.

04

Right to opt out of sale or sharing

Direct us to stop “selling” or “sharing” your personal information under the CPRA — including sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal.

05

Right to limit sensitive information

Limit how we use or disclose Sensitive Personal Information. In practice this is narrow for TECHi because we do not knowingly collect sensitive categories.

06

Right to non-discrimination

Exercise any of the rights above without us denying service, charging different prices, or giving you a lower-quality experience. If we ever offer a financial incentive, it will be clearly disclosed and opt-in.

How to exercise your rights

Four steps. Real humans. Free of charge.

  1. Submit a verifiable request

    Step 1

Email privacy@techi.com with the subject line “California Privacy Request,” or mail the request to our Wyoming address below. Tell us which right you are exercising (know / delete / correct / opt out).

  2. Help us verify you

    Step 2

We match the request to at least two or three data points already on file — typically account email, recent article interactions, and billing details for paid subscribers. We never ask for a government ID unless the request is unusually sensitive.

  3. We confirm within 10 days

    Step 3

You will receive an acknowledgement within ten (10) business days summarizing the request and our verification status.

  4. Full response within 45 days

    Step 4

We substantively respond within forty-five (45) calendar days. If we need more time, we will tell you — California law allows one 45-day extension when reasonably necessary.

Authorized agents

Someone else can file on your behalf.

You may designate an authorized agent — a law firm, privacy service, or a trusted individual — to submit a request for you. We ask for two things: a written permission signed by you, and independent verification of your identity. Businesses registered with the California Secretary of State can act as agents without individual designations.

Verification

How we confirm it is really you.

Verification scales with the sensitivity of the request. A right-to-know summary uses two matching data points (email + account activity). A right-to-delete uses three, and a right-to-know for specific pieces of personal information requires a signed declaration under penalty of perjury, as California regulations require.

Other California protections

Three more statutes, three more rights.

Shine the Light

California Civil Code § 1798.83 lets you ask, once a year, whether TECHi® shared personal information with third parties for their direct marketing. We do not — so the answer is always zero — but we respond in writing within thirty days if you ask.

Minors under 16

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under sixteen. Users aged 13–15 must opt in themselves. Users under 13 cannot create an account, and if we discover data from a child under 13 we delete it promptly.

No financial incentives

TECHi® does not offer financial incentives in exchange for collecting, selling, or sharing personal information. If that ever changes, the program terms and a clear opt-in flow will be disclosed on this page first.

Retention

How long we keep data.

Account data stays with us for as long as your account is active, plus up to twenty-four months for re-activation and abuse prevention. Newsletter lists are pruned every ninety days of inactivity. Billing records are kept for the seven-year window the IRS requires. Anything else is deleted within twelve months of its last useful purpose.

Updates

When this notice changes.

We revisit this notice at least once a year. Material changes — new categories of collection, new third-party sharing, new rights — are announced at the top of this page and by email to subscribers at least fourteen days before they take effect.
