OpenAI’s ChatGPT is rolling out new features aimed at business users, including integrations with popular cloud storage platforms, meeting recording, and support for MCP (Model Context Protocol) to connect with advanced research tools. This edition adds compatibility for Dropbox, Box, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive links for ChatGPT. Through these integrations, ChatGPT can look for answers by searching through users’ cloud files. For example, an analyst can use data from the company’s slide decks and documents to develop an investment thesis.
OpenAI has confirmed that these new features will respect an organization’s existing access control hierarchy. ChatGPT is also introducing meeting recording and transcription, a standard offering in most modern productivity tools. In addition to producing notes with timestamped citations, this function can recommend action items. Users can search through their meeting notes just like they would with documents or files stored across the integrated platforms. Additionally, action items can be directly turned into a Canvas document, OpenAI’s tool designed for writing and coding projects.
This new feature set places ChatGPT in competition with platforms like ClickUp, Zoom, and Notion, all of which have recently added transcription and meeting summarization features to their services. In addition, OpenAI, HubSpot, and Linear are releasing beta versions of deep research connectors for several Google apps and Microsoft technologies. These connectors will enable users to build comprehensive research reports using internal data and online sources.
All paid users have access to these connectors, according to OpenAI. Moreover, OpenAI is introducing MCP compatibility, allowing Pro, Team, and Enterprise subscribers to connect ChatGPT with extra third-party tools for more comprehensive analysis. These upgrades signal OpenAI’s goal to strengthen ChatGPT’s role in enterprise workspaces. Given its current momentum, the company is likely to succeed. While competitors like Notion and Context (backed by Lux Capital) are also working on smart office tools with research and analysis features, OpenAI currently holds a first-mover advantage.
Already, more than 3 million companies are subscribed to OpenAI’s enterprise solutions, a notable jump from the 2 million reported in February by COO Brad Lightcap.
Our opinion:
With this update, OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT’s role from a helpful assistant to a full-fledged enterprise productivity tool. The integration with popular platforms and the new meeting features make it an all-in-one solution for many business tasks. As competition in the smart workspace continues to grow, OpenAI’s early lead and rapid innovation give it a strong edge in the market.
