It turns out that Epic Games may have created an entirely new way into the market for professional and aspiring game developers alike when they made Unreal Engine 4 available to all via an affordable monthly subscription model earlier this year. Crytek is now following suit by making its CryEngine technology available to anyone willing to sign up for one of three subscription models. Interested parties can pay $9.90 on a month-to-month basis, $9 flat each month for a three month commitment or $8.33 each month for those wanting to sign up for at least six months.
Crytek’s development technology CryEngine is now available to all developers through Steam. The game engine has been used to create titles such as Ryse: Son of Rome and the Crysis series. CryEngine is available in three subscription plans: one month at $9.90 a month, three months at $9 a month or six months $8.33 at a month. Those with subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis. With a subscription, users will have access to the latest build of the CryEngine, receive first notifications about updates and have instant access to its graphical features and tools. “All development features of a CryEngine game can be produced, edited and played immediately with the ‘what you see is what you play’ (WYSIWYP) system,” the engine’s description reads. “The engine deals with the instant conversion and optimization of assets in real-time, enabling cross-platform changes to all elements of the game creation process. This increases the speed and quality of development, while significantly reducing the risk of creating multi-platform games.”
