I hope you guys are ready to pull out your dusty old guitar controllers and rock out like its 2008, because Guitar Hero and Rock Band are entering the ring once more. Unfortunately, I lied about pulling out your old controllers because the new Guitar Hero will require you to purchase new equipment since it’s launching on newer consoles. Not much is known about the new Rock band though.

Hey gamers: 2008 is calling, and you’re going to have to make a big choice soon—a decision as crucial as picking between the Rebels and the Empire, the Giants and the Dodgers, or Taco Bell and Chipotle. Once again, the Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises are set to square off with brand-new titles for the big gaming consoles. It’s no secret that the rhythm game franchise just hasn’t been rocking all that much since 2010, when the last major titles in both franchises were released: Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3. One would have thought that Harmonix and Activision might have given up on the space, or perhaps concentrated their efforts elsewhere—mobile tapping games, anyone? As fate would have it, they’ve both been working on a way to reintroduce their classic, plastic-controller-strumming titles on the latest systems (at the same time, of course).
