Samsung is single-handedly responsible for creating the phablet market as we know it today, and has dominated the high-end side of that market with its Galaxy Note series for years. Numerous competitors have tried to steal the phablet crown away from the Galaxy Note, but aside from the iPhone 6 Plus, none have even come close to succeeding. That may change very soon, however, as Huawei is reportedly working on its own high-end, stylus-equipped phablet to take on the Galaxy Note 5, and considering the Chinese company’s recent history of excellent devices, I’m really looking forward to seeing what the company has to offer.

The Samsung Galaxy Note series has been one of the main factors that contributed to the growth of the “phablet” market, but even though the Note influenced other smartphone manufacturers to create larger-screen devices, the aforementioned device / lineup continues to be the only one to offer decent integrated stylus support. For whatever reason, not many smartphone makers seem to be thrilled by the idea of implementing a stylus in their large-screen phones. LG had a few attempts of its own with the Vu and the LG Gx Stylus, but these terminals weren’t really in the same price bracket as the successful Note – thus they weren’t actual direct competitors. Interestingly enough, however, a recent report from Korea citing unnamed sources in the component industry claims that Huawei is now working on a stylus-enabled flagship able to compete with the Note 5. Join us below for the full story. According to the Korean media, Huawei has been considering the idea of building a new flagship phone with integrated stylus support and even reached Wacom for a potential collaboration. However, since Wacom develops the S Pen in conjunction with Samsung, and because there might be some exclusivity rights involved, Huawei was apparently forced to look somewhere else for a stylus supplier.
