HTC has announced that pre-orders for its upcoming virtual reality headset will open at the end of February, shortly before the first batch of Oculus Rift headsets start to ship out. On Monday morning, CEO Cher Wang told the Telegraph that pre-orders for the HTC Vive will open on February 29th, and will begin shipping sometime in April, but she didn’t mention the headset’s price, which is a little worrying. The Oculus Rift costs $600, which is more than most people are willing to spend on something as new as virtual reality, so offering a more affordable alternative would be a great way for competitors like HTC to get the upper hand. Unfortunately, if HTC was planning to do that, it almost certainly would’ve announced the price of the Vive by now, and the fact that it hasn’t suggests that the headset will be similarly expensive.
