Siemens has been one of the worlds largest tech companies for more than a century, back when the term “technology company” meant something a lot different then what it does today. The German company was even one of the biggest names in the handset market up until around 2005, and while its prominence in this area has declined significantly, one of the company’s former divisions is far from done with the mobile world. In fact, Gigaset, which is the successor to the mobile division that Siemens sold to Arques Industries back in 2008, will be unveiling a new high-end smartphone at IFA in Berlin next month.

Before smartphones even became a thing, Siemens used to be one of the most prominent feature phone manufacturers in the world. This was happening last decade and up until 2005. Nowadays, the company is largely known for building wind turbines, medical equipment, water treatment systems and so on (basically nothing related to smartphones). However, Siemens’ Home and Office Communication Devices division was acquired by Arques Industries back in 2008 and became “Gigaset Communications”. Why is this relevant, you ask? Well as it turns out, Gigaset might soon become a true spiritual successor to Siemens’ mobile division, as the company now seems to be preparing for the release of its first high-end smartphone. The news broke earlier today via AnTuTu, who shared not only a couple of alleged press renders depicting the device, but also a benchmark entry detailing the hardware specifications. Find the full story below. According to AnTuTu, Gigaset plans to unveil its first smartphone (a high-end one) on September the 1st, most likely during IFA 2015 in Berlin. We don’t know what the handset will be called, but according to a benchmark entry the terminal carries the model number “GS55-6”.
