At the Royal London Children’s Hospital, the children who must be there are treated to amazing technology to make their stay more enjoyable.
Called “Woodland Wiggle”, it is designed to encourage children to be more active while at the hospital. Check out the adorable pictures and video below.

There’s a use, here. Argonne National Lab knows it. Most people who watch the video below would suspect it. Nobody’s quite sure what that use is, but for now it’s enough to know that it can be done.
By using sound waves, the lab has discovered a way to make solutions containing different pharmaceuticals float in mid air. Dropped from a syringe or even from a spoon, the droplets of liquid remain stationary within the field. As Argonne says on their site, it’s no magic show:
It’s not a magic trick and it’s not sleight of hand – scientists really are using levitation to improve the drug development process, eventually yielding more effective pharmaceuticals with fewer side effects.
Effective immediately, Big Steve has been made to take medical leave from Apple again, handing the reigns over to COO Tim Cook and sending the following memo to Apple’s employees.

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.
I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

You may remember Steve’s first Apple absences – in 2004 for pancreatic cancer, and 2009 for a liver transplant. That he’s survived this long only serves to underscore the fact that he’s an unstoppable robot man. So really, nobody should fret that this is anything Steve can’t beat. It remains to be seen, however, if shareholders will share such optimism tomorrow.
Man, I always hate to come off as an Apple fanboy (that, when I’m not coming off as a cranky Apple hater), especially where the iPad is concerned. I don’t want to buy one; I want a computer, thanks, not the adult version of an early-childhood activity center. That being said, though, almost every day I hear tell of some nifty new use for an iPad. I can’t just not show you guys neat stuff, I guess.
Which brings me to this post. Japan adapted the iPad with almost untold zeal, and get this: they’re already using it for surgery. Is that even…? Like, this is only a week later. I would not trust my life to my surgeon’s new tech toy. I mean, yeah, it was only used as a display in this case, but even so, it seems like a lot to ask of the Apple tablet to suddenly throw it into mortal combat right away like that.
Then again, according to the doctor, there, it actually went swimmingly, and the device was apparently useful. I’m impressed with their prowess, too – they seem to be whipping around, zooming and panning that baggy-wrapped iPad like nobody’s business. Not even yours. Not even mine.
