A couple of years ago, HTC launched the HTC Butterfly handset. The following year, there were rumors that HTC had planned a sequel called the HTC Butterfly 2 4G. The device has yet to be officially announced, although the closest thing to it being official was the fact that it was spotted on the AnTuTu benchmarks. Well the good news for those who are still doubting its existence is that the device in question has recently been spotted at the NCC, which is Taiwan’s equivalent of the FCC. The NCC filing has basically confirmed the name of the device, which is the HTC Butterfly 2 4G. It also seems to suggest that the launch of the handset might not be too far off, although we guess we’ll just have to wait and see for ourselves.

The unannounced HTC Butterfly 2 4G has received certification from the NCC. That is the Taiwanese equivalent of the FCC. The model number is the B810x and the phone will have support for GSM, WCDMA LTE 700MHz, LTE 800MHz and LTE 1900MHz. According to the NCC, the handset will offer NFC, Bluetooth and WLAN connectivity. A sequel to the HTC Butterfly, which was known in the U.S. as the HTC DROID DNA, a Verizon exclusive, has been rumored for some time. In April, a version of the HTC Butterfly 2 4G, headed for Japan, showed up on the AnTuTu site wearing a 5 inch display with resolution of 1080 x 1920. This model is powered by a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. A 13MP snapper is on back with a 5MP front-facing camera. The NCC certification indicates that the device could launch soon. But we don’t expect to see this model outside Asia. The manufacturer still has the HTC One (M8) as its flagship handset, and with the HTC One (M8) Prime having been scrapped, it will remain up to the former to battle the Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3 for the top spot among Android top sellers this summer.
