It seems that the “mini” craze when it comes to a particular smartphone model has not exactly gone out of fashion – far from it. In fact, the “mini” version of a particular smartphone model is getting more and more commonplace, and with the latest Samsung Galaxy S5, that too, will be on the receiving end of the “mini” treatment. The question is, just how many variants would be enough? It remains to be seen whether it will be called the Galaxy S5 Dx orGalaxy S5 Mini, but the SM-G800 (its model number) does seem to suggest a number of hardware variants.

Whether or not it will be called Galaxy S5 Dx or Galaxy S5 Mini, the device we’ve come to know as the SM-G800 from various leaks may in fact have multiple hardware versions. The handset that’s widely expected to be the successor to the Galaxy S4 Mini from last year has been spotted in both a user agent profile (UAProf) on Samsung’s website as well as a well known benchmark. But the specs these two sources reveal are slightly different. That may have a simple explanation, though. The UAProf is for the model SM-G800A, and the benchmarked phone was the SM-G800H. And these two could in fact be different variations of the same device. The ‘full size’Samsung Galaxy S5 has the model number SM-G900, but there’s a letter appended to that to signify the specific region or carrier it’s meant for. So, for example, the SM-G900F is the model for Europe, while the SM-G900A is the one for AT&T.
