A Snapdragon 805-equipped LG G3 might still become a reality

1 min read

To everyone’s disappointment, the LG G3 didn’t go official with the Snapdragon 805 chipset as rumored, but there’s still a chance that a new version of the phone might go official with the said processor onboard. Word from Korea is that the company is working on a variant which will provide faster LTE connectivity. The LG G3 will swap the Snapdragon 801 chipset with the newer one which integrates the Qualcomm MDM9635 modem supporting LTE-A technology. G4Games is reporting based on information provided by Naver that the handset will be able to offer download speeds of up to 225Mbps, that’s provided the network supports such a high downlink rate. Rumor has it that the phone will end up on SK Telecom and LG U+ which basically means that it could be exclusive to the Korean market.

Late last month LG unveiled its 2014 flagship, the G3. The smartphone immediately went on sale in South Korea but is yet to go on sale in other major markets around the world, including North America. Even though it isn’t not available for purchase right now, LG is reportedly working on a new variant of the G3 that will be more powerful than the existing one. A report coming in from Korea suggests that a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 powered LG G3 could be released as soon as next month. LG isn’t expected to tinker much with this supposed variant. The 5.5-inch Quad HD displaywill be there along with the same design. The only change LG is expected to make, if any, may be found under the hood. It may swap the existing Qualcomm Snapdragon 801processor for the Snapdragon 805. Its coupled with an Adreno 420 GPU or graphics processor that’ll make mobile gaming more robust. Not only will the updated processor make the device more snappy, it’ll even add 4K ultra-high definition video support, something that media buffs will surely appreciate. Moreover a new modem could bring about theoretical download speeds of 225Mbps over 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
