Company tries to fine customer thousands of dollars for leaving a negative online review

A website celled Kleargear.com tried to fine one its customers $3,500 for leaving a negative online review. Apparently the website’s Terms and Conditions, in an effort to “ensure fair and honest public feedback, and to prevent the publishing of libelous content in any form”, made leaving negative reviews about the website a finable offense.

We all know we’re supposed to read the Terms and Conditions before we agree to anything, but few people ever do so. Unfortunately, that means companies can slip whatever they want in there. Case in point: the website Kleargear.com has a clause in their terms of sale that allows them to harass customers who “negatively impact” their business.
