Dirpy Lets You Turn Your Favourite YouTube Videos Into MP3’s

Want the dubstep version of “Because I Backtraced It” on your iPod? This dream has come true with Dirpy, a cheeky little app now in Beta that lets you turn your fave YouTube or Google videos into lovely ear candy.

It only works with Google and Youtube’s API’s, but that is more than enough for most people to get their fix. Needless to say, the audio quality on these videos is generally not the best, so the resulting MP3’s may be equally not as awesome. Unless you are a discerning audiophile, you’ll be less concerned about tonal quality and more concerned with your favourite remixes becoming magically available to you.

It should be cautioned that Dirpy is in Beta and it may take a couple of reloads and refreshes to actually get it to work on your favourite videos. I had to do four refreshes before it would load the “Backtrace” dubstep video. And when I finally got it to load, there was an internal server 500 error. Eventually, it worked, but it seems like the Dirpy folks have a few bugs to iron out before this baby is ready for prime time.

Update Nov. 8: Looks like Dirpy discontinued their service before it really even got off the ground. Hopefully the fleeting popularity of the service will encourage something similar to be developed.

  1. I used it like 20 minutes ago… it was easy and it worked…i wanted to use it again…just now…and…there is no longer a dirpy.

It is with great heaviness in our hearts that we have decided to discontinue Dirpy. Sadly, we lack the resources to continue improving and growing Dirpy in the manner you all deserve.

It was incredible and humbling to see Dirpy grow so much so quickly. Your kind words and feedback were inspiring, and we’re happy we were able to build something enjoyed so thoroughly by so many.

It was a blast, guys, it really was.

    All the best,
    Team D

  3. Zamzar has provided this service for a really long time now. Two years, perhaps? Click the “tools” link at the top of the page.

    🙂

  4. Dirpy was the bomb. What happened? Why did it go down? When it first came out I didn’t see those “internal server 500” error. I just started seeing them within the last couple of days and then Dirpy was gone.
