Midlife

If you are one of those people who suddenly has had a change of heart about your career path, don’t worry because you are not alone. The average American changes careers around 7 times in their lifetime. With 71% of Americans who are “not engaged” or “actively disengaged” from their jobs there are several reasons as to why people change careers.

So why aren’t people satisfied? Being underpaid is the number one reason for job dissatisfaction, with lack of growth opportunities, no career advancement and feeling trapped coming in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. An even better question is “What are you going to do about it?”. You can either change careers or deal with it. 1 out of every 2 people say that they are satisfied with their job while 3 out of 4 say that they have no intention of leaving their current jobs. But for those of you who graduated college with degrees in film, fine arts or commercial arts and graphic design, it is probably better that you switch careers, since none of them average more than $32,000 per year.

But there is no need to worry just yet, because there are 14.6 million jobs projected to be created by the year 2018, a majority of them coming in the healthcare, the social sector and computer industry.

So are you ready for an upgrade? Well going to graduate school just may be the answer even during the middle of your life. In fact, there are over 200,000 students over the age of 50 currently enrolled in graduate degree programs. Check out this infographic below presented by gradutedegreeprogram.net and decide for yourself if you should embrace the midlife crisis.
