Family sues Uber over the death of their daughter

A San Francisco family that lost its six-year-old daughter, Sofia Liu, in a local traffic accident involving an Uber driver last month has nowย sued the smartphone-enabled black car firmย for wrongful death.ย On December 31, 2013, Syed Muzzafar was using the Uber app while he was driving but did not have anyone in his car at the time of the accident. Muzzafar was also named as a defendant in Mondayโ€™s civil suit.

The parents of a girl killed in a car accident involving an Uber driver have sued the on-demand car service in a case that could help determine who is responsible when something goes wrong in the nascent โ€œsharing economy.โ€ย The plaintiffs in the case, Ang Jiang Liu and Huan Kuang, are seeking unspecified damages resulting from the death of their 6-year-old daughter, Sofia Liu, who was hit and killed last month by a driver employed by Uber. Sofia Liuโ€™s brother, Anthony Liu, was hit and injured and is also named as a plaintiff. The suit was filed Monday in the San Francisco Superior Court.
