Firefox 4 Beta Is Out – A Fanboy’s Fantasy?

I sat here for too long trying to come up with a headline about Firefox, and Chrome, and reflections. I got nothing. It’s the thought that counts. But it’s true – Firefox 4’s beta is out, and so far, it’s looking an awful lot like a certain other browser that’s been taking the Internet by storm in the last year. Immediately noticeable is the much-overhauled interface, the biggest change of which is the new tabs-above-address dealie, again, taken from Chrome. Personally, I always kind of preferred the tabs below – easier to get to via mouse, and all that. Though I guess as a definite ‘power user’, I should probably just learn the hotkeys for tab browsing and proceed not to care where the tabs are anyway. The menu is condensed into a do-all ‘Firefox’ menu, which is pretty handy. Y’know, if you like handy things. Speaking of which, Firefox 4 also supports ‘uninterrupted browsing’ – that is, in the event your pornQuest results in a broswer crash, it will only crash the current tab, allowing your search for boobs to continue. Radical, right? Yes. Perhaps the most noticeable – not to mention important – change, though, is the sheer Chrome-like speed. Pages load precisely 8.9 gazillion times faster than before, and even YouTube is agreeing to behave. Truly impressive. For die-hard Firefox fans, of which I am one, this is dreamy. This is dreamy, guys. Seriously. Anyway, Mozilla want your hot, sticky feedback all up in their inbox, so you should probably waste no time in downloading the beta right the hell now. Give ’em the guns and tell them I sent you. Maybe wink knowingly. They’ll like that.
