First cell phone television ad from 1989

Okay, so we probably shouldn’t have used a jolly Don Draper cartoon as the featured image for this piece, but it’s hard to find a valid photo for the original Centel cellular phone commercial from 1989.

Back then, it wasn’t commonplace for people to be able to afford phones in their car, boat, or at the beach, so the allure of the video is the lifestyle it represents. It seemed very useful but they didn’t want the masses to think they could afford a cellular phone of their own, right?
