Google creates a 3D map of Tokyo and the surrounding area
G

Google on Thursday added 3D imagery to Maps for the greater Tokyo area in Japan, bringing one of the biggest metropolises on earth to the Internet. Despite being one of the most popular destinations in the world, mapping services don’t typically offer 3D imagery for Tokyo, likely due to its immense size and densely populated areas. But Google is no ordinary company, and Maps has certainly never been an ordinary service.

Ever wanted to skydive over Tokyo or walk the streets of the Japanese city with the Tokyo Sky Tree towering over you — with just a click of your mouse? Now you can — virtually speaking — as Google has released new 3D imagery of Tokyo through Earth View in Google Maps. This means you can now see 3D views of major landmarks, such as the Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree, as well as surrounding buildings, topographies, and parks.
