The HBO Go app has finally arrived on Xbox One. Already available on the Xbox 360 and other platforms, HBO Go is now up-and-running for Xbox One owners. You’ll need an HBO subscription to watch shows like Game of Thrones and The Sopranos on the console. The app also takes advantage of the Kinect sensor, allowing users to find the right show by using voice commands or hand movements.
Rumors circulated last month the app was in the final phase of testing, and apparently its now fit for public consumption. The app features both Kinect voice and gesture control, with a range of shows on offer including True Detective, Game of Thrones and Girls, along with older series like Entourage and The Sopranos. HBO CEO Richard Plepler recently announced that the company will launch a stand-alone streaming service in 2015, so viewers can enjoy all HBO has to offer without a cable or a satellite package. Pointing to the current ten million broadband-only homes in North America, which is project to grow, he argued “That is a large and growing opportunity that should no longer be left untapped. It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO.”
